I’ve been at this photography thing for about 2o years (!), but I still like randomly stumbling on my work.

super secret non-disclosure stuff

many times I’m not able to share what I’m shooting. At time I can show it after the client has had their fun first, and other times I can never ever show it to anyone or even tell anyone I do work for them…who am I to question ‘the man’. It does, however, make it hard to post new work to my blog! Here’s an outtake from a fun shoot earlier this year for BMW. It was super cold and low production value, but we still walked away with a pile of good images. More super secret stuff to follow….

we had a great shoot for galleria dallas this past tuesday with wendy from brogan tennyson group. although we were getting great images, I always try to capture something for myself as well…something that may be just outside what the the client needed. never stop inventing.

I had the opportunity to travel to the NJ offices of Brogan Tennyson Group to capture their offices. Â It gave me the chance to spend some time in NYC as well as create some interesting imagery.

getting to know your subject

A couple days ago I was able to spend a few hours shooting my neighbors, the Karp family. Â Its nice to spend time getting to know people, if only a little bit. Â We had some fun in the studio and then went to one of my favorite locations for some moody or happy portraits…depending on your perspective. Â here is a shot of little olivia daydreaming…

range

I cant speak for other professions, but in photography I get to work on quite a range of projects. Â Last week I worked with a great crew, clients, and cast numbering 26+ shooting for an international brand (if I told you who I’d have to kill you). Â Why choose between shooting on location or building a set when you can do both and build a set on location! Lots of lights, grip truck, computers, talent, the works.
Then, over the weekend, I had the chance to shoot a project with only my wife as both client and assistant in Branson MO.  One light, street casting for talent, very low budget-ish.  But either way it’s the never ending pursuit to make commerce into art  that makes every day around here interesting.

Even though I’ve been at this photography thing approaching 18 year or so I still love getting the tearsheets.  This was a great campaign we shot with Julia Toth at JWT inside and propping of our cowboy by Courtney Watkins.

finally!

At times clients don’t want me to share what we’ve been shooting together.  Its not that it’s super secret spy stuff…its just that they want to be able to show their cool new images to people before I do.  Finally I’ve shot something I can share!  Of course I’m not going to tell you who it was for, so keep your eye peeled!

editorial

I’ve never really shot much editorial work.  I have nothing against working hard for little pay, its just that magazines rarely call me.  I do respect photographers that create amazing work inside the editorial process.  Here are a couple we captured a few weeks ago at P’cheen with some great talent!

kiddies

I’ve been shooting many kids jobs lately…kids and seniors.  It’s interesting how similar they are.  The kids just let it all hang out, wear their harts on their sleves, and all the other clichés.  It’s often the same with older people.  They’re comfortable in their skin and are confident in their identies…other people’s opinions be damned.  We could all take a lesson here.  I’ve finally made the time to pull out a shot from our Children’s Healthcare job.  I try to tell a story in one photo, but as it often is in advertising, the copy helps a bit.  You’ll have to wait for the copy on this one…

a friend of mine, debbie, who is visiting in town from denver brought her cutie-pie son over for some shots this afternoon…not everyone has to be in a good mood to look good!  and I think that’s the tallest clover I’ve ever seen.
