see my previous post for more info about ghost bikes.  At some point I’ll post all of my ghost bike images with stories about each person they represent.  Wednesday’s weather was not very conducive for anything but getting wet, but hey, bikers commute in all types of weather so its only right to show these bikes in the slush:

Ghost Bikes are small and somber memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street. A bicycle is painted white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, usually accompanied by a small plaque.  ghost bike posting #1 is here.

According to traditional Chinese belief, the lion signifies courage, stability and superiority. The lion’s dance is performed to chase away ghosts and evil spirits, and since they are afraid of loud noises, clashing cymbals, a gong and drums accompany the dance.  A business being visited by the lion dance will have good luck in the year to come and they will normally put out offerings for the lion.  It seemed that there were lion dances on every block in chinatown on monday…this image shows the lion bowing as it leaves a retail store.  Quite a treat for the eyes and ears.

how fun to be in NYC for chinese new year.  I had just enough time to run down to chinatown before a (hopefully new) client meeting and capture a few interesting shots.  this one is the aftermath of thousands and thousands of firecrackers going off…so many that all of us had thick residue on our heads.  there’s a small chance I wont make it though security for my flight back to ATL if they have one of those bomb sniffing machines.

It takes me time to work new images into the ‘books’ I’ve got on-line, so I’ve added a new section on the SLP website showing some of the new work we’ve done lately. This section will be a little broad in scope, but a great way to check out new stuff!  You’ll land on it first so check it out and let me know what you think!  This particular image was shot at the Vladimir Ossipoff house in Honolulu, HI.

the view from room 61 at the belmont hotel in dallas.  a photographer who has a interesting blog, chase jarvis, was in the habit of posting the view from his hotel and seeing if anyone could guess where he was.  its a great exercise in where you been!
