getting to know your subject

A couple days ago I was able to spend a few hours shooting my neighbors, the Karp family.  Its nice to spend time getting to know people, if only a little bit.  We had some fun in the studio and then went to one of my favorite locations for some moody or happy portraits…depending on your perspective.  here is a shot of little olivia daydreaming…

we had about 60 riders swing through the studio for a quick 30second photoshoot on saturday night.  check out the photos from the other checkpoints on the photocat website.  what was really a blast was checking out all of the work project on the side of the elliot street pub and here the jeers and cheers.  talk about a street party….

here is a small sampling of the shots:

hey all, dont forget to come out to cheer on the racers at the photocat.  swing by the studio between 6p and 9p this saturday or check out this spectators guide.  The race ends at elliot street pub and Atlanta Sedition Orchestra will be playing at 8:30ish.  the slide show begins at dark showcasing all the photography from 6 photo checkpoints.  I grabbed this shot at the east point velodrome a couple weeks ago.

range

I cant speak for other professions, but in photography I get to work on quite a range of projects.  Last week I worked with a great crew, clients, and cast numbering 26+ shooting for an international brand (if I told you who I’d have to kill you).  Why choose between shooting on location or building a set when you can do both and build a set on location! Lots of lights, grip truck, computers, talent, the works.

Then, over the weekend, I had the chance to shoot a project with only my wife as both client and assistant in Branson MO.  One light, street casting for talent, very low budget-ish.  But either way it’s the never ending pursuit to make commerce into art  that makes every day around here interesting.

OK, so what’s a photo cat you ask.  we’ll, it’s like an alleycat, but with photos.  I’m super psyched that I’ll be one of the photographers shooting the photocatrace in a couple weeks.  check it out the details here.

P 40+ with the phase one 80mm lens

the folks at capture integration were nice enough to let me test a camera yesterday.  we were looking at shadow detail and color fringing.  as some of you may know I love to shoot with the sun, a strobe, or HMI pointing right into my lens.  of course that’s a bad idea in the rule book, but who ever got anywhere exciting by following the rules.  check out this shot of sophie…I under exposed the shot with the sun blasting right into the lens, then did what I could in photoshop to make the image fall part.  it looks like it held up pretty well!  click here for a close up.
